Blue Mountain College (BMC) was founded as a private, Christian, four-year liberal arts college in 1873. One hundred
and thirty three years later, the College continues to value every student and is committed to meeting students' needs
to the fullest extent possible. The institution's core values permeate the liberal arts curriculum, which promotes the
development of Christian character, social/self awareness, academic excellence and leadership. The student-centered
campus includes highly qualified faculty and staff who help to create a campus climate of personal attention, respect

The distance learning program at BMC developed out of students' growing demand for online instruction. BMC's virtual campus upholds all the standards and requirements maintained by the College's traditional courses. BMC offers a variety of online courses, which are listed in greater detail below.

Blue Mountain College, through an approved program with the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE), offers a supplemental endorsement in Library Media (K-12). Students with questions as to how this certification might be applied from state to state should contact the Office of Teacher Licensure at the State Department of Education in the state in which they expect to receive certification. This endorsement may be added to an elementary or secondary license.
Certification in Special Education
Moreover, Blue Mountain College, through an approved program with the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE), also offers a supplemental endorsement in elementary and secondary Mild/Moderate Disability. Students with questions as to how this certification might be applied from state to state should contact the Office of Teacher Licensure at the State Department of Education in the state in which they expect to receive certification. The elementary supplemental, K-8, which can only be added to an elementary license, may be obtained by completing the following 18 semester hours: SE420, SE422, SE424, SE434, SE436 and SE440.
The secondary supplemental endorsement, 7-12, which can be added to a secondary or special subject area license, may be obtained by completing the following 21 semester hours: ED321, SE420, SE422, SE424, SE440, SE450 and SE454.
A K-12 Mild/Moderate Disability supplemental endorsement may be obtained by completing the non-overlapping 27 semester hours of coursework.
Business Administration Courses
Two courses required in the Business Administration Major at Blue Mountain College are currently offered in the online format. All students wishing to major in Business Administration at BMC are required to take BU 340: Principles of Finance and BU 420: Introduction to Entrepreneurship online.
General Education/Core Courses for Early Enrollment
The purpose of the General Education Program at Blue Mountain College is to prepare students for a lifetime of learning. Inspired by and consistent with the College's mission as a Christian institution, the program is designed to instill basic skills, knowledge and attitudes deemed necessary for disciplined study, global awareness, personal development and reasoned responses to a changing world. This educational experience should assist students as they build academic majors and minors and pursue meaningful careers in service to God and one another. All of the general education courses offered in the online format are required in degree programs at Blue Mountain College.
To meet the needs of current high school juniors or seniors and/or homeschoolers who wish to begin college courses prior to completion of requirements for high school graduation, the College grants permission to enroll in certain core courses. The student who, at the end of his/her junior year, has completed at least 15 acceptable units (including at least three in English, two in mathematics, one in science and one in social science) will be granted permission to enroll. The student must have an ACT standard score of at least 23 or a comparable SAT score. A letter of recommendation from the principal is required before a student may be considered for early admission.
